Strangers Agatha and Milo spend the night trapped in a bank basement as the rest of the building and its people have been taken hostage during a robbery by malevolent fairies.

​Agatha, who cares for her parents and survives through a string of part-time jobs, suspects Milo, a one hit book wonder and bank manager, of being involved in the crime.
