Launched in 2013 Mattfilms Ltd. is a Canadian corporation specializing in independent film, television and digital content production for theatrical, TV broadcast and digital streaming. Drawing from global talent and finance to facilitate, Mattfilms' purpose is to produce Canadian and international co-productions for a wide audience that are looking for entertainment through stories that investigate and challenge the human experience.
Ashley Matt - Owner and operator of Mattfilms Ltd.Following her studies in journalism and art, Ashley began her career in communications, project management and artistic direction. Utilizing emerging techniques, funding opportunities and relationship building, Ashley brings to her filmmaking the skills acquired from more than a decade of work paired with the new and innovative keys necessary for modern film production in Canada and internationally.

Ashley is a Netflix Diversity of Voices Initiative fellow, the initiative took place during the 2019 Banff World Media Festival and included attendance at workshops, speaking engagements and meetings with peers, executives, producers and distributors.
In 2021 Ashley completed the short film Puppy starring Oluniké Adeliyi which was picked up for global online distribution by UK company discover.film. In the same year Ashley began development on the comedy fantasy anime Old Wives based on the indie American podcast of the same name, which was optioned Ashley’s production company Mattfilms Ltd.
In 2018/19 Ashley and her company co-developed the international detective/drama series Godley with Northern Ireland company Village Films with support from Canada Media Fund and Northern Ireland Screen.
Ashley began writing feature screenplays in 2009 and co-produced her first feature documentary Start Local in 2013 which was picked up by Viceland Media. Ashley moved from producing in 2013 to directing with a handful of micro shorts, one of which was first place winner of the CreativeFuture and VidCon 2015 contest.
She directed her first feature film with the experimental new wave A Walk that she took to the 2016 Agora Film Market at the Thessaloniki International Film Festival. The same year A Walk was an Official Selection at the BLOW-UP Chicago International Arthouse Film Fest and the Martinique International Film Festival.
Her follow up feature was the rotoscope animation fantasy drama feature I Believe in Bank Robbers which was an Official Selection at the Lift-Off Global Network First-Time Filmmaker Sessions 2021.
In 2017 her sci-fi drama feature script The Girl Who Fell to Earth was a semi-finalist in the Women In Film – LA Mini Upfronts competition, second-round finalist The Blacklist screenwriters features lab and was invited to the second round of the 2017 Sundance/Sloan Commissioning Grant & Fellowship.
Ashley is a member of Canadian Media Producers Association, Women in Film - LA, the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television and Creative Women International – UK.
Ashley’s early film education began with rented VHS copies of Monty Python, Peter Sellers, Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola movies. With the advent of DVDs, a foreign film section at the corner movie shop and the discovery of a local film group that screened independent movies, Ashley's visual and storytelling style was cemented. Later Ashley's palate was expanded when she started watching Sally Potter, Andrea Arnold, Jane Campion and Mira Nair films. Ashley’s inspiration comes from her family, everyday encounters, news, music, art, books and film. Ashley lives and works in Ontario, Canada with her partner and their two dogs Porthos and Bronson.
